Time-sensitive: Minnesota residents possibly exposed to measles at international science fair -- (05-23-07) -- Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) staff are contacting 98 individuals around the state who may have been exposed to measles while attending an international science and engineering fair last week (May 14-18) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A measles case occurred in a student from India attending the fair. The fair was attended by teachers, students, and parents from 51 countries and all but four U.S. states. Exposures may have occurred on May 12-16.

High School Football Teams Reflect Changes in Rural Life -- (09-14-07) -- The northwestern Minnesota towns of Stephen and Argyle, populations 708 and 656 respectively, are separated by nine flat miles of soybean and wheat. The highest point between them is the mounded dirt that elevates the railroad tracks connecting their grain elevators. Since consolidating their schools in 1996, they have dominated nine-man football, never missing a state semifinal.The impact of changing demographics and farming technology in this region is apparent in the student body and, on Friday nights, on the football field.

Keeping Families Together - Parents Training - Oct. 19 -- (10-09-08) -- There is a new Minnesota law, Chapter 260D, which was established for the voluntary placement of children with developmental disabilities or emotional disturbances when foster care is needed to receive treatment. This training will clearly describe what a voluntary placement agreement is, how it should be used, court review requirements, and how they are terminated. Parents will learn proactive strategies to become more effective advocates for their children.
