Philosophy

We believe that each individual has worth and is entitled to be treated with dignity and respect.

Recognizing that individuals and families vary in their ability to cope successfully with the stress of illness, disability, or other family health crisis, we believe that every individual or family has a right to the highest level of wellness they are capable of achieving.

We believe that nursing and related services are best utilized by patients and families who accept their right and responsibility for planning and participating in their health care, who work actively with the professional worker in setting goals for care, and who participate actively to the extent of their abilities in carrying out the plan of care.

We believe that individuals have the capacity to change their behavior (to learn) but we recognize that they are not separable from their culture:? family, friends, and significant others play a vital role in the individual's or family's reaction to health teaching and care.

Recognizing the obligation of Norman-Mahnomen Public Health to help restore or maintain the individual or family in the best possible state of physical, mental, and emotional health and to restore or maintain a sense of spiritual and social well-being, the staff of Norman-Mahnomen Public Health pledges intelligent cooperation in coordinating health care services with all individuals and groups concerned with the health of the community.
